As mentioned in our history, the Student Honor Council was created in order to put the responsibility of upholding the standards of academic integrity in the hands of the University's students. As members of the Honor Council we have two primary roles. First and foremost is that we are asked to adjudicate many of the cases of suspected academic dishonesty brought forward to the Office of Student Conduct. What we are asked to do is determine whether the students brought before us are responsible for violating the Code of Academic Integrity or not and, if so, determine appropriate sanctions. Our second purpose is trying to educate the campus on exactly who we are and what we do. It is through educating the campus that we hope to reduce the amount of academic dishonesty which occurs. Above all, this organization allows students to have a profound and immediate impact on other members of this University and thus all members of the Honor Council take their roles very seriously.
